"Tough guy" Lamar Miller a RB Bill O'Brien counts on
March 28, 2017 06:55 PM | Drew Dougherty

Bill O'Brien is glad Lamar Miller is a Texan. With a strong autumn on the ground, despite fighting through ankle and shoulder in injuries in 2016, Miller impressed the Texans head coach.

"Tough, tough guy," the head coach said. "Doesn't say a lot. Leads by example. For us in Houston, that's what we're looking for."

O'Brien spoke with the media on Tuesday at the Annual League Meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. He reflected on the impact Miller had in 2016, his first with the Texans.

"I was very, very happy with Lamar Miller," O'Brien said. "You can count on Lamar being there and doing his job, day in and day out. That's what I like about him."

Miller finished with 1,073 rushing yards in 14 games. He ran for five touchdowns and caught one more. O'Brien said a year in the system will be beneficial for Miller.

"He understands how we operate now," O'Brien said. "Our offense, our offseason program. I'm sure he's going to be a lot more comfortable when he comes in on April 17th. I'm sure he's working hard to be in as good a shape as he can be when he shows up for the offseason program."

Miller and the Texans start their offseason conditioning program at NRG Stadium and the Houston Methodist Training Center on April 17.
